Position: Full-time, coordinator
Compensation: $40,000

Group Mentoring and Skate Park (GMSP) Coordinator

Railroad Street Youth Project (RSYP) is a small, youth-founded youth organization dedicated to youth empowerment, in the southern part of the beautiful Berkshires of western Massachusetts. AT RAILROAD STREET, YOUTH TAKE THE LEAD. They explore their full potential and become equipped to meet the challenging transition to adulthood. RSYP’s professional staff expertly pairs youth-generated ideas with community resources, empowering youth to create and oversee a wide range of innovative, life-changing projects. The position – The GMSP Coordinator is responsible for

  • Coordinating and leading RSYP Group Mentoring programming, recruiting young people and volunteer mentors at a 3:1 ratio for 2-3 mentoring groups, reaching 30+ youth annually.
  • Facilitating a collaborative process with young people and mentors to plan and implement weekly programming September-June.
  • Managing the Great Barrington Skate Park, recruiting and supervising park staff to plan and implement community programs and ensure young people and all community members a safe and enjoyable Skate Park experience, May-October annually.
  • Co-facilitating sexual health education in local high school and early college settings using the Get Real evidence-based curriculum.
  • Facilitating individual young people in the Drop-in Center and other settings to step into their own empowerment, dream big, problem solve, and identify and connect with resources and supports.

 

Core Qualifications – The GMSP Coordinator embodies RSYP’s mission in day-to-day interactions with young people and approach to leadership, planning and program development, implementation, and problem solving. This position requires a person who is:

  • Ability to connect with and support young people ages 12-25, including young people of color, working class youth, skaters, and LGBTQ+ youth in rural communities, experience leading BIPOC spaces preferred.
  • Passionate about empowering youth through intergenerational relationships with matching experience in youth work, peer leadership or youth organizing.
  • Experience collaborating, planning, implementing and facilitating youth-centered, co-created programming/activity with youth, adults and young staff, including outreach and program recruitment.
  • Strong skill sets and specific experience working with others across social differences including age, race, socio-economic status, gender, sexuality, and ability.
  • Able to work occasional nights and weekends.
